Saturday Night and Sunday Morning

At the end of the last post we had just settled into our room at the Grand Floridian and were looking out over the lagoon to the Castle at the Magic Kingdom.

Dinner Saturday Evening

After a long day which has included grazing on food on and off for most of the day we were just looking for a light bite when we got to eating this evening. This would be followed by collapsing into bed. After a quick look at the options here at the Grand Floridian, we chose to go to the 24 hour diner called the Gasparilla Island Grill. As it turned out the Grill is two floors down from our room, so it was very easy to find. The grill's entrance is from the outside of the hotel. Indeed the door is in exactly the position of our balcony doors but two floors below.

Haydn's Pizza - Gasparilla Island GrillI opted for a Sausage & Mozzarella Pizza served with a side of cucumber salad. The pizza was thin crust and crisp and the small rounds of sausage meat had been spread over the tomato and cheese sauce. Light but tasty, which was just what I needed. The cucumber salad was sliced cucumber in a piquant vinaigrette, sharp and tangy.

Drew's Burger - Gasparilla Island GrillDrew opted for the 'Artisan Burger' which was served with bacon and cheese on a brioche bun with a side of french fries. Note, as tired as we were Drew remembered to ask for french fries not the home-made chips, which were also on offer. So he ended up with what we would call chips, not the crisps he might have had if he had made a mistake in talking American!

Dinner over we went back to the room and were in bed for 8.30pm ready to catch-up with our sleep. We were clearly tired as even the banging of the fireworks at 9pm weren't enough to stop us falling asleep. I saw them begin, but have no idea what time they finished as I was asleep

Sleep or not

My body clock always needs a while to catch-up with an Atlantic crossing. My body knows it is 5.30am and time to wake up even though the watch tells me it is 12.30am and time be asleep. As ever, having slept well from 9.00pm onwards I was wide awake and 12.30 and doing my best for the next four hours to stay in bed and not disturb Drew (who was also awake about 2am) and the neighbours. I gave up this effort at 4am, got up and loaded the pictures from yesterday and wrote my last blog post.

Some people say flying West is challenging, but I always find the impact more coming in this direction. Still, it is worth it to enjoy the holiday.

Breakfast

One of the luxuries of staying in the Club House part of this hotel is that there are complimentary drinks and food from 6.30am to 10pm. So at 7.30am having showered and dressed we headed down to the Club House area for our breakfast.

Haydn's BreakfastThe selection and range of food available was extremely wide, including a gentleman making Mickey Mouse head shaped waffles, with various options for flavours to put over the top. We decided not to eat Mickey this morning but went for the continental offerings of cheese, meats and lovely little sun-dried tomatoes and spinach frittata (these are not shown in the photo as I saw them when I was going for my second plate of breakfast. Drew had a similar first plate of breakfast and three danish pastries for his second plate.)

Breakfast options at the Club level - Grand FloridianThere was a wide range of juices, coffees and teas, a perfect start to our Sunday in Orlando.

After breakfast I headed off to Church and Drew to the gym, more of that in the next post.
